I heard people can modify their Region One players to make them all Region players.

I live in the UK and have a Muti-Region DVD player so can play region 2 and 1, plus all the others.
In relation to the HD-DVDs, it's not your player that is region free it's the discs, no HD-DVD has a region code, so you can play any one from anywhere on any player.

I've been meaning to go region-free for awhile. The only reason I haven't is because I'm going to spend ever MORE money on DVD's after I'd get it, haha.

I have two region free players and seeing as I import alot of early US releases they are invaluable. Still in a UK store called Tesco you can get a solid Region free capable player for £18 ($27) so they're not especially rare or expensive. I do however make sure any player I buy is multi-region on the net before I purchase. It's common sense.
