I often wonder why asian male actors never get important sexy lead roles. They never get the girl in movies and they are never considered sexy by Americans. I would love to see an asian actor as Batman, Spiderman, Sherlock Holmes, Hulk, etc. Asian male actors either play as an evil villian or some whimpy nerdy guy. Non-asian actors get the women all of the time. And most of those guys are talentless and completely unattractive. Even the awful actor Will Ferrell gets more women than asian male actors in movies. Will Ferrell is completely unattractive and dumb. His movies are completely horrible. Yet, sexy asian men never get tons of women in movies, and if they do its not as sexy.......compared to women being with non-asian men. I noticed this a lot. Shame on you people to think Will Ferrell is sexier and talented than most sexy asian male actors!

I don't think casting an asian as any of those would work, take sherlock holmes for example, you'd have to relocate the entire story which would change the whole culture of the characters. Same thing with James Bond, when the original is white and english then it's a bit of a problem trying to explain how suddenly they're japanese or african.
I'd rather see a new type hero, away from the usual martial arts type movies that have asian lead roles out of hollywood. You dont really get an asian lead unless it's a movie containing martial arts. Anyone know any?

I believe it would work. Did you know they are going to have Lucy Liu as Watson on the new Sherlock Holmes tv series?! Why not have a whole asian cast? How would an asian Batman ruin the story? An asian guy that's born in Europe could play James Bond. The asians are already taking over the Hawaii Five 0 tv series. If they aren't playing a martial arts character, they are playing a villian. I guess the movie Sunshine........but the leading roles were that of white men.

well If they continued the first batman series, I could see an asian Batman... they did use Georhe Clueny<sp...
plenty of other actors, with lead rolls, Will Ferrel mainly plays in Comedies.. don't think I've seen him in an Action movie... so I'm not sure how he even came into the topic...<strike that> I'm not even sure he's played a main actor in all but 2 of his films.. I could probly goto China and/or some asian country and ask why white men don't get lead rolls, or the girls, and why they gotta play the villian most the time.
the dude playing Lou Kang or whatever got the girl, was the lead, and probly came off as a sex symbol... Bruce Lee, same thing... I could see maybe an Asian Spiderman, or something.
as Sean has pretty much stated, if you break away from what the original was, you'd best have a good story. and I'm sure the Shrelock Holmes series will probly bomb... Hawaii Five 0 is a good way to get Asian main actor's as Hawaii has more of an asian Demo that'd make sense.

How would an asian Batman ruin the story? An asian guy that's born in Europe could play James Bond. The same way Tim Burton's batman cast Billy Dee Williams to play Harvey Dent. Don't get me wrong, it didn't ruin the movie for me...it's still one of my all time favorite batman films next to its sequel Batman Returns. But it raised my eyebrow because Harvey Dent has always been Caucasian. I will agree that we don't often make a lot of lead Asian roles that "get the girl" and whatnot, but we do have a few...Mortal Kombat, Romeo must die, The Replacement Killers, Shanghai Noon, Harold and Kumar, The Last Emperor...lol We're still working on taking it outside of kung fu, and stereotypes But I think we'll eventually get there. I could probly goto China and/or some asian country and ask why white men don't get lead rolls, or the girls, and why they gotta play the villian most the time. That's another legitimate argument as well.

If there were more Asian Americans producing movies maybe things will change. I have a few Asian friends who are starting from the bottom, and producing their own projects. The same goes for writing.
The next step would be to have more Asians employed in the companies that distribute movies.
Basically, the people in power are not using Asian talent in large numbers, so, the people have to make it happen on their own. It's tough road, but it can be done. It's a matter of time, it will change.
My backround is Mexican, and things are barely changing for Latin Americans in Entertainment. I see a lot of projects that are borderline racist, but, I think it's just part of the growing pains on the road to change. I'm not angry, I realize that people are just uninformed about my culture. I'm optimistic about the issue.
